Moving in togetherBy Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group

Deciding to move in together is a huge step. It is one which really should not be taken lightly (or completed without a great deal of thought). Both parties have to sit down to go over everything ahead of when they take that plunge. Being a professional moving company in Oklahoma City, we understand that despite having a plan, it's not simple to mix two households into one.

Here are some ideas to help you to both plan for the next step.

Be sure that it is the best time. Unfortunately, there is no schedule that says when the best time is for a couple to move in together. It all depends on how both sides feel. Each of you should be on a similar page prior to when you merge your houses.

Figure out the place where you want to live. Though it may be easier to move into one person's residence, for many couples, it is advisable to start from scratch in a new place. That way, it'll always seem like home to both of you, instead of his (or her) apartment.

If you do opt to move into one person's abode, will the other person be comfortable enough to make changes? Anytime an individual moves into the other person's home, they will often desire to make it feel more like their home by bringing in their own pieces of furniture and moving a few things around to make space for their things. The other person has to be capable to sacrifice and enable the other one to make these adjustments so both people will be happy in their new home.

Don't rush when sorting through your belongings. When blending two households, you are going to have sufficient items for the new (or existing home). You are probably going to have not one but two beds, two sofas, and many blankets. You'll likely both have kitchen and bathroom items.

You do not need two of all things in your new location, so you are going to need to look through everything to determine what you intend to keep and what you are going to sell or give away. A few sentimental items should remain but you might grovel to choose what furnishings you should keep. You may have to make that call based on the one that is in better condition or even the one that can fit in your home better.

Don't be afraid to look into storage. Should you be really struggling to decide what to keep and get rid of, you might need to rent a storage locker for the time being. This could also be helpful if you plan on moving into a bigger property in the long term. You could need the extra bed for guests when you find yourself ready to get your next house. You might like to keep several of your sentimental items in storage until you have your man cave or she shack.

Talk about money early on. It is essential to discuss finances before you decide to move in together. You may want to use a joint checking account in order to team up to pay for the bills.

However, it may be more effective if you divide up the bills, letting one person maintain the rent, while the other handles the electric, water, and other bills. You both have to be at ease with how you will pay your bills prior to taking the next step.

Prior to when you move in together, you'll want to sit down and really discuss it. You'll want to make certain that it's the best time for both of you. In addition, you have to figure out if you are going to live in one person's residence or begin fresh with your new home. Then, it is time to go through your stuff. Obtain a moving company in Oklahoma City to help and rent a storage locker if you are struggling with whose stuff to keep.
